Gable
The triangular wall section at the end of a pitched roof.
Definition
A gable is the triangular wall section formed at the end of a pitched roof where two sloping roof planes meet at the top (ridge) and spread apart at the bottom (eaves). A gable roof is the most common roof style in residential construction because it is simple to frame, sheds water and snow effectively, and provides good attic space. Gable roofs are more vulnerable to wind damage than hip roofs.
