Valley
The internal angle where two roof planes meet and water flows toward the eave.
Definition
A valley is the internal angle where two roof planes meet, forming a channel that water flows down toward the eave. Valleys are high-water-volume areas and are therefore high-risk for leaks if not properly installed. Common valley treatments include open valleys (exposed metal valley liner), closed valleys (shingles woven across the valley), and California valleys (a hybrid approach). Ice and water shield should always be installed in valleys regardless of region.
