Cricket
A small peaked structure built on the uphill side of a chimney to divert water.
Definition
A cricket (also called a saddle) is a small peaked structure built on the uphill side of a chimney to divert water and debris around the chimney rather than letting it pool against the back wall. Building codes typically require a cricket on any chimney wider than 30 inches. Crickets are framed with lumber and covered with the same roofing material as the main roof, with proper flashing at every transition.
