Ridge Cap
Specialized shingles or metal that cover the peak of a roof.
Definition
Ridge cap is the specialized shingle or metal cap installed along the ridge (peak) of a roof where two roof planes meet. It provides the final seal against water infiltration and gives the roof its finished look. Ridge cap can be pre-formed architectural ridge shingles or cut from standard 3-tab shingles. Most ridge caps cover 30 linear feet of ridge per bundle. Some ridge caps include ventilation slots underneath to provide attic airflow.
